This article contains MAJOR SPOILERS relating to some of the most pivotal parts of the "Lord of Mysteries" and "Circle of Inevitability".

We followed the pitch-black ocean, passed through the liquid-like fog, and arrived at the mountain peak that resembled a monster. Behind it was endless black fog. It seemed to blanket an entire continent.

Roselle's Diary
on Lord of Mysteries, Chapter 615

The Abyss is a place said to be separated from the corporeal world. In mysticism, it is considered to be the most corrupted and most chaotic place, even corrupting True Gods, and it is supposed to be where Devils lived.

The concept of the Abyss holds two dimensions. The first is physical, with an entrance hidden somewhere in the real world. The second is in the mind, with an entrance nestled deep within everyone’s hearts.[1]

The evil god, Devil Monarch Farbauti (also known as the Dark Side of the Universe) resides in the Abyss.[2] During the Rise of Ancient Sun God in the Second Epoch, "He" chose to flee and hide in the Abyss.

This corruption likely comes from Tenebrous World, the Sefirot for Chained and Abyss pathways. This corrupted place is most likely controlled by Mother Tree of Desire. The place is possibly the Divine Kingdom of Devil Monarch Farbauti.

After the Second Epoch, the Abyss has never revealed itself to the world again.[3] According to his diary, Roselle found an entrance to the Abyss hidden somewhere in the Fog Sea.[4][5]

Amon seems to be very familiar with the Abyss, he can use some of its characteristics to go anywhere. His tomb has a doorway through the Abyss. Through this doorway, the Abyss is described as follows:

Dark blue waves were surging forward, and there was a dense black mist that looked like liquid. A craggy mountain protruded from the mist, continuously flowing with viscous liquids. Behind this mountain, the black mist seemed endless, with no end in sight. There was also no limit to its depth. The deeper one looked, the more placid it felt. It was as if once something fell in, it would fall forever.

Lord of Mysteries, Chapter 448

However, this doorway was destroyed by Horamick Haydn.[6][2]

In current days, the corrupting and degenerative properties of the Abyss have evolved in a way that most Devils are unable to survive.[5][7]
