— Baynfel to Lumian Lee on Circle of Inevitability, Chapter 503 |
Baynfel is Lumian Lee's contracted messenger.
Appearance[]
It is a tall, human-like being dressed in deep-black robes reminiscent of the Church of the Eternal Blazing Sun's clergy.
However, his exposed face and limbs bear the marks of prolonged incineration, leaving only bones and charred flesh. Empty eye sockets glow with dark flames, while strange, viscous black flames linger, causing perpetual pain to the spirit.[1]
Personality[]
Baynfel is very silent and often ignores his summoner, Lumian Lee's questions.[1][2]
Summoning[]
Incantation[]
A creature wandering above the world,
The penitent who awakens from the flames of pain,
A messenger that belongs solely to Lumian Lee.
Compensation[]
Baynfel does not require any compensation for delivering letters. However, there is a latent danger in associating with him.[1]
History[]
Shortly after the events of Fourth Epoch Trier, Lumian Lee perused a list given by Madam Magician on 30 Spirit World creatures suitable to become contracted messengers. Selecting the "coolest one" among them, Lumian proceeded to summon Baynfel and succeeded in his first attempt.
Baynfel did not require compensation for delivering letters, only hinting that there might be latent dangers involved. Trusting that the danger level would be bearable since the information on Baynfel was provided by his Major Arcana, Madam Magician, Lumian accepted Baynfel as his messenger.[1]
After advancing to Fate Appropriator, Lumian entered into a contract with Baynfel using his Contractee abilities. He obtained the "Shadow Animation" ability in exchange for giving Baynfel the Eye of Truth.[4]
Due to the downside of the Baynfel contract, Lumian would witness unsettling truths in scenes intimately connected to Baynfel's past. This drawback was triggered when Mr. K brought Lumian to the secret cathedral of the Aurora Order, causing Lumian to see a lizard-like creature in the cathedral.[5]
According to Madam Magician, she knew that Baynfel has a certain connection to the True Creator. She believed there was a chance that Baynfel could bring new possibilities to Lumian, who was sent to the Aurora Order as an undercover agent. This is why she included Baynfel on the messenger list for Lumian to choose.[6]
Trivia[]
- The summoning incantation for Baynfel differs from the norm. It isn’t just a "spirit" but a "creature wandering above the world".[1]
