Ever since the coal mines began to run dry, young people gradually left Belltaine and headed for Constant and Backlund. The atmosphere here has become more and more oppressive, and the city is just declining by the day.

— Biles about Belltaine City
on Lord of Mysteries, Chapter 1281

Biles is a Sequence 9 Sailor of the Tyrant Pathway. He is part of the friend group consisting of Roy, Phil and Pasha.

All of them were caught in the bizarre and terrifying events which occurred as a result of the Trunsoest Brass Book running wild in Belltaine City.

Appearance[]

A Loen man who was less than thirty years old. His skin was tanned from all the labor he did. His exposed muscles weren’t too exaggerated, but it gave people the feeling that they were made of steel.[1]

Personality[]

Even when facing against the horrors brought by 0-02, Biles would muster courage and confront it.[2]

Background[]

Roy, Biles, Phil and Pasha were all survivors of the 1350 World War. Biles and Roy had participated in the defense of Belltaine City before. They had witnessed the deaths of many of their friends and obtained supernatural powers due to various reasons.

After that, due to the chaos brought about by the war, they either lost contact with their unit, or they avoided it on their own accord without the officials learning about it. Slowly, they got to know each other and became friends with each other due to their common experiences.

History[]

Sometime after the war, the four of them arrived at Biles' hometown of Belltaine City to seek out any friends and family who might have survived. While enjoying themselves in a bar, they suddenly encountered a Beyonder incident which resulted in Phil's hand being cut off by an unseen force.

In a bid to heal it, they set off for the house of Dr. Weber, a military doctor with Beyonder powers. At his house, they found Dr. Weber and a nurse with whom he had been having an affair hanging in midair, both dead. Soon, they found a strange notice hung on the town's municipal square, and identified it as the source of the anomaly.[3]

While attempting to destroy it, they met a man who introduced himself as a wandering magician, Merlin Hermes. He claimed to be able to grant their wishes. Biles wished to know where his family was now. Their location was revealed to him by Arrodes.

Quickly realizing the magician's friendliness and strength, they stuck with him and assisted him in solving the anomaly, which turned out to be caused by the Sealed Artifact 0-02, released by the former Chief Shepherd of the Church of the God of Combat, Larrion.[4][5]

The paradox of Biles simultaneously being a Belltaine native and a standard foreigner was key in stopping 0-02.[6][2]

Next, I’ll give you some psychological treatment. I’ll help you forget all those matters. Otherwise, you’ll be targeted by 0-02 and never be able to obtain peace until you die. Believe me, Sealed Artifacts at this level can definitely do something like that—even if it has been taken away.

Merlin Hermes to Biles
on Lord of Mysteries, Chapter 1281

After 0-02 was sealed, Merlin used a Historical Projection of the marionette Hvin Rambis to seal the memories of Biles, who had come into direct contact with 0-02, thereby protecting him from latent danger.[7]
