— Camus' thoughts about Lumian Lee on Circle of Inevitability, Chapter 662 |
Camus is a Beyonder of the Justiciar Pathway and a member of the Castiya Family. He is also a member of the Patrol Team in Port Pylos.
Appearance[]
A young man with fluffy brown hair and brownish-yellow eyes dressed in a white shirt and an unbuttoned yellow vest appeared as if he had fallen asleep without washing his hair the night before.
Personality[]
He is a laidback young man who doesn't focus on appearances in daily life. He would react swiftly and identify the core issue.
Camus is a contradictory person. In the past, he often talked about which states and islands the Feynapotter Kingdom should invade, which mines and valleys they should seize, and how they should establish more colonies on the Southern Continent. But he is showing pity towards Rhea victims of colonialism, he is sincere and genuinely feels pain for her.[1]
Background[]
Camus is a Castiya Family descendant, more correctly, from a collateral branch. His family branch has long dwindled, but he can't deny that the Castiya last name and the Don prefix have provided him with advantages beyond those of ordinary people. He received a potion upon reaching adulthood, achieving Sequence 9 Beyonder status. However, his subsequent advancements were the result of his own efforts. He also had more extensive mystical knowledge than most Beyonders.[2]
He arrived in Matani over five years ago, when he was 18 years old.[3] At that time, the Intisians had just departed, and the Feynapotter Kingdom and the Church of the Earth Mother forces had completed their initial infiltration. He sensed numerous opportunities, thinking he could leverage his last name to secure a prominent position. Hence, he took a ship across the Fog Sea. The outcome differed from his expectations, but it was still acceptable. He ends up joining Port Pylos's patrol team.
When the serial murder case from four years ago unfolded, he was merely a Sequence 8. Alongside a few teammates, he followed Vice-Captain Reaza to investigate.[4]
History[]
Lumian as Louis Berry killed Serial Killer Bram Andariel, then reported it to Port Pylos's patrol team office, but he bribed Camus with Bram's official bounty in exchange for the dossier on a serial murder case from four years ago and the relevant items that the patrol team has gathered. Camus agreed on the condition that Lumian can't take away the dossier and items; he can only read and copy them.[5]
After Lumian read the dosser, he was interested in the aluminum foil wrapper of chocolate left by the murderer, even though there were no significant traces because the murderer always wore gloves. He felt maybe Ludwig would get useful information if he ate it, so he bribed Camus again to bring the two pieces of aluminum foil in exchange for an additional reward. Such as a very useful summoning incantation for a spirit world creature, and Camus agreed, although he was a bit annoyed because he felt that the spirit world creature, namely the Rabbit of Knowledge, was of no use to him.[6]
Armed with knowledge from Ludwig that the murderer liked Fermo coffee without sugar and that one of the shops that sells it is near the patrol team's office, Lumian chats with Camus to look for the suspect serial killer and possibly Hisoka. At first, Camus didn't want to say much, but after being bribed that the murderer's bounty would be his, he then answered that there is a member of the patrol team from the Chained Pathway who likes Fermo coffee without sugar, and he was born in Tizamo Town, which fits the description of the murderer's habits and Lumian's speculation about Hisoka receiving a boon from the path controlled by the Mother Tree of Desire to hide his Abyss Pathway. Also, Tizamo Town is the location of one of Hisoka's pranks.[7]
While relaxing in his office, Camus was attacked by Sow who used the Poker Card, which possessed him and controlled him to aim a gun at his own head;[8] fortunately, he was saved by Jenna's warning scream, which alerted Deputy Captain Reaza to help him releasing the "soul" of that Poker Card and kill Sow.[9] The reason Hisoka targeted him was because he gave Lumian information about Hisoka as well as a diversion while Hisoka tried to kill Kolobo who had just transacted with Lumian at Matani Shop.[10]
After Hisoka's incident was over, Camus and Kolobo was ordered by Vice-Captain Reaza to escort and accompany adventurer Louis Berry to Tizamo Town. Camus hadn't wanted to accept Vice-Captain Reaza's order the day before, but over the past five years, Reaza had saved him from the brink of death three times. He couldn't refuse.
Otherwise, with the prestigious "Don" prefix and Castiya family name, he could have declined his superior's orders. At worst, he could leave the patrol team and seek opportunities elsewhere. After all, he had already digested the Sequence 7 Interrogator potion. He had saved enough funds for his subsequent advancement thanks to Louis Berry's two commissions. Even returning to his family, he wouldn't be the type brushed aside. But to repay Reaza's kindness, Camus reluctantly agreed to come to Tizamo Town and monitor Louis Berry's every move.[2]
Despite the strangeness of Tizamo Town and there won't be any new reinforcements from the Admiral Guard, only Deputy Captain Reaza will come from the patrol team. Camus didn't leave Tizamo directly; he stayed there and attempted to resolve the Dream Festival problem because his pathway influence made him yearn to maintain order in Matani and safeguard the lives of the people there. Beside, Captain Reaza is about to arrive. Camus has to help him; he has to repay what he owes him. Also his confidence in the adventurer Louis Berry and the Church of the Fool behind him. He believed that with Louis Berry present, the situation would be threatening but not perilous.[1]
During the Dream Festival, he continued to maintain lucidity and rationality. Camus, who wished to rescue Amandina, discovered that she also possessed lucidity and was a boon recipient.[11] After the Dream Festival, he planned to leave Matani to return to his family and contact the main branch before advancing to Sequence 6.[12]
Trivia[]
- "Don" at the beginning of Camus's name signified "Honorable," representing his noble status.[4]
- As a devout and educated believer in Earth Mother, Camus wouldn't curse with vulgar phrases like "son of a…" From his view, mothers were great—birth and nurturing equally important, just as the earth nurtured all things' growth.[2]
