May the Storm be with you!

— A standard salute of the Storms believer
on Lord of Mysteries, Chapter 41

The Church of the Lord of Storms was officially founded after the Cataclysm in the Third Epoch. They claimed to be one of the earliest Orthodox Churches that had helped humanity through the Cataclysmic Era.

This organization is in control of the Tyrant Pathway and is one of the Eight Orthodox Churches. Along with the Church of the Evernight Goddess and the Church of the God of Steam and Machinery, the three churches are influential throughout the Loen Kingdom. However, after the war, Church of the God of Steam and Machinery lost its influence and was expelled from the Kingdom. In addition, because of this church's control of the Tyrant Pathway, they also have a strong influence over the islands of the Rorsted Archipelago and the Sonia Sea.

The headquarters as well as their holy altar, Chasm of Storms Cathedral, had been located in Backlund until the end of the Fourth Epoch, then they shifted their holy altar to Pasu Island in the Sonia Sea only after the establishment of the Loen Kingdom.

Their relationships with the Church of the Eternal Blazing Sun, and the Church of the God of Knowledge and Wisdom are poor. The three churches see each other as enemies.[2]

The Church of the Lord of Storms has Council of Cardinals which make up the upper echelons of the church, and they have direct control over the Mandated Punishers. The church uses the Azure Gate to contain various Sealed Artifacts.

History[]

In the Fourth Epoch, their headquarters was in Backlund, but in the Fifth Epoch, they moved it to Pasu Island.

The main domain of this church is in the Loen Kingdom, along with the Church of the Evernight Goddess. They were also have a strong influence over the islands of the Sonia Sea.

Starting in 1194, after Roselle discovered a new safer sea route to the Southern Continent, this discovery jumpstarted the colonization of the Southern Continent, and the Orthodox Churches began to spread their influence there. The church, along with the Church of the Evernight Goddes, has domains in East Balam.

Characteristics[]

The doctrine of the Church of the Lord of Storms is neither advocates fighting nor promotes war, but it absolutely emphasizes treating the enemy with the cruelty of a storm. Any anger will be vented on the spot.

The Church of the Lord of Storms is known to discourage gender equality, instead promoting more traditional values of the man busy with work, while the woman takes care of the family.[5] They believe that girls shouldn’t go to school,[6][7] and must remain chaste before marriage.[8] The Church didn’t have any female high-ranking members, quasi or not.[9]

Many pirates believe in the Lord of Storms because the Lord of Storms has never given a revelation to exclude pirates from “His” followers.[10][11] Among the nations of the Northern Continent, only the Lord of Storms in Loen wielded authority over the sea. Yet, sailors, sea merchants, and adventurers loyal to other deities sought to evade shipwrecks, brutal weather, and the need for specific protection. This led to various compromises and unique circumstances. In some Churches, believers were tacitly permitted to hold a partial belief in the Lord of Storms.[12]
