— Klein Moretti to wailing souls in Creeping Hunger on Lord of Mysteries, Chapter 481 |
The Creeping Hunger is a powerful Sealed Artifact with the power of a Sequence 5, Shepherd of the Hanged Man Pathway. After combining with Mr. A, it also gained certain abilities from Sequences 6 and 7 of the Hanged Man Pathway.
History[]
According to the Interrogator soul in the glove, this artifact's origins go back at least as early as Year 1338.[1] Klein suspected the former owner of the Creeping Hunger was a Feysac captain who participated in the Konotop sea battle.[2] This glove was later given to Qilangos by the Twilight Hermit Order.[3]
Qilangos wielded this artifact and became a famous pirate. Later on, Creeping Hunger was taken by Azik Eggers after killing Qilangos[4] and then sealed through his Death Pathway abilities.[5] After using it to regain some of his memories, Azik bequeathed it to Klein.[6]
Azik sealed the Creeping Hunger with his Death Pathway abilities, reducing its downside to only requiring a soul every time it is used. Klein then made it a regular part of his equipment when fighting.
After traveling to Foggy Town of the Hornacis Mountain Range, the Creeping Hunger fused with Mr. A's soul and Beyonder Characteristic, giving it another upgrade.[7]
Klein lost it when he committed suicide to escape from Amon in the Forsaken Land of the Gods.[8]
It appeared next to Adam and Amon after the latter lost the battle with The Fool Klein.[9]
Appearance[]
The Creeping Hunger is a thin human-skinned glove.
Its color changes depending on the will of its user, or when using an ability, eg, gold when using powers from the Sun Pathway,[10] emitting a sinister and noble blackness when using the power of Black Emperor Pathway,[11] turning transparent as if it was a shadow of the spirit world when using power from Door Pathway.[12]
It can also become invisible in camouflage mode.
Power & Downside[]
Power[]
Creeping Hunger allows the wearer to use the stored souls' Beyonder abilities. It has two modes, Grazing and Devouring, the former is to capture a soul and Beyonder characteristic, while the latter is to feed it. When a soul is released, it will leave behind its Beyonder characteristic.
It has a camouflage effect when not in use and couldn’t be detected by most Beyonder means; it can be switched between its original appearance, gloves of various colors, and camouflaging it as skin, revealing only its wearer's bare hand underneath.[13]
- Initially
- After fusing with Mr. A's Beyonder Characteristic
- It can store a maximum of 7 souls, apart from the five fingers, the palm and the back of the palm can each Graze one more soul.[14]
- Each soul will have 2-3 abilities each, one of which can be picked, while the others are still random.
- Switching between souls is now considerably faster.
- It can graze one Sequence 4 soul.
- Creeping Hunger itself has the abilities of "Shadow Lurking" and "Flesh Bomb" that respectively belong to Shadow Ascetic and Rose Bishop.
Downside[]
- Initially
- It has to consume a living person’s soul and flesh every day. Otherwise, it would consume its owner as a replacement.[15]
- After Mr. Azik seals it
- It only requires a human's soul and flesh to be consumed when it is used.[6]
- After spending a long time with Klein, it had adjusted to him. It didn’t need to be fed after every use. It had been restored to its original state. Once it was activated, it just needed to eat once in a twenty-four-hour period, regardless of how many times it was used during that period. Of course, there was no need for it to be fed on the day it wasn’t used.[16]
- It only requires a human's soul and flesh to be consumed when it is used.[6]
- After fusing with Mr. A's Beyonder Characteristic
- It requires a human's soul and flesh per day, requiring the user's soul if there are no other souls to be eaten.
- It will praise the True Creator from time to time in the spirit of the user, bringing confusion and pain, and the risk of being noticed by "Him".
- Klein convinced it to do it only thrice a day and warn him beforehand.[17]
- After Mr. Azik seals it again
- It only requires a human's soul and flesh to be consumed for each twenty-four hour period it has been used.
- It still wants to praise the True Creator, with the same conditions: only thrice a day and it has to warn Klein beforehand.
Although the Creeping Hunger had been Undying sealed by Azik, its thirst for flesh and souls remains and is always trying to manifest itself. If the wearer is willing to kill, his desire may be amplified.[18]
Sealing Method[]
After fusing with Mr. A and Frank Lee's creation, it developed an intense fear of mushrooms. If there are any mushrooms within 5 meters, no abilities can be used.
