— Danitz on many occasions in Lord of Mysteries |
Danitz Dubois was the fourth boatswain of the Golden Dream, the ship captained by Vice Admiral Iceberg Edwina Edwards. He met and befriended Gehrman Sparrow, eventually becoming the Oracle of The Fool.
Appearance[]
He is approximately thirty years of age, and his hair and eyebrows are charred yellows while his dark blue eyes are bright. His face isn’t too chiseled, almost as if he's from the area south of Intis, Lenburg, and Segar.
By 1358, the man appeared to be in his thirties, dressed in a linen shirt, a brown vest, dark brown pants, and sturdy black leather boots. His eyebrows and hair were charred yellow, like they had been kissed by flames. His bright, dark blue eyes and facial features hinted at a southern Intis heritage. He exuded an air of arrogance as he casually rested.
Personality[]
“ | What problems could there be? Although I’m mainly an adventurer who hunts treasure, I’m also a qualified part-time pirate. |

— Danitz to Gehrman Sparrow on Lord of Mysteries, Chapter 523 |
Although he is a Red Priest Pathway Beyonder and a pirate, Danitz is a rather innocent and sometimes silly individual in many ways. He is not an ambitious person and is satisfied with his current status. He is proud of being a Sequence 7 and a pirate worth 3000 pounds, but after Klein scares him with Creeping Hunger, he quickly becomes obedient to his orders. On many occasions, he is extremely cautious to the point of cowardice and draws back from dangerous situations unless others (like Klein) push him forward.
Being a member of the Golden Dream, he has received lessons from Edwina Edwards, as is usual on his ship. However, these classes are rather painful for him, despite making him more knowledgeable than normal pirates. He holds some romantic thoughts towards his captain Edwina. According to Arrodes, he likes females who are "beautiful, powerful, mysterious, intelligent, and able to step over him".[9]
Background[]
Danitz lived in the south of the Intis Republic, in Elema Town.[8] When he was 16 years old, he heard the stories of adventure and treasure on the sea from a group of sailors at a local bar. Which inspired Danitz to become a treasure hunter and coming back home rich.
Equipment[]
- Shadow Cloak: A mystical item black cloak similar to Sequence 7 Shadow Ascetic's Shadow Hiding of the Hanged Man Pathway.[10]
- Flying Carpet: A mystical item carpet that has the ability of suspension and flight. Obtained after the death of Steel Maveti as a spoil of war.[11]
- Boxing Glove: A black boxing glove created from Groselle's Beyonder characteristic. Its negative effect is making the user become rash, often acting before thinking.[12]
- Sun Brooch (Temporary): Borrowed to use from The Fool. The brooch gives access to novice Mid-Sequence Sun Pathway spells. Its negative effect is making the user feel spiritually hot.
Trivia[]
- He had saved up all his money and turned them to real estate on Bayam, Amyris Avenue, Units 12 to 16.[8]
- His bounty was at 3,000 pounds when he first appeared in the novel, and later rose to 10,000 pounds.[13] His bounty was removed after the Year 1352 because he became an 'official' Beyonder under the Church of the Fool.[14]
- When The Fool's authority affected the real world shortly after Klein advanced to Sequence 0, Danitz accidentally sent a love confession telegram to Edwina Edwards.[15] However, at that moment, the telegraph malfunctioned, and his message failed to reach the Golden Dream.[16]
- Danitz’s favorite curse word is Dogsh*t. It's his most used cuss word in the novel. The only exception when he doesn't say that is when he is with Gehrman Sparrow, in which he uses "son of a b*tch".
- Under the education of his Captain, his known languages besides Intis, Loen, and Feysac are Ancient Feysac, Hermes, Ancient Hermes, Elvish, Jotun, and Dragonese. He later learned Dutanese. According to Edwina, he has some talent in languages but has quite a few problems in other areas.[17]
- In the side story "In Modern Day," he is the foreign language teacher at the Dream Tutoring Classes run by Director Ai's granddaughter. He, along with a group of punk-style delinquents, hands out flyers to passersby at a barbecue stall, being referred to as "Dani" by other delinquents.[4]
- According to The Adventurer series and recent sea rumors, Mr. Fool’s Oracle is known to be from the Hunter Pathway, yet his romantic endeavors were fruitless, and he doesn’t boast any notable female companions.[18]
