— Lord of Mysteries, Chapter 6 |
History[]
The current epoch started more than 1300 years ago. Gods have stopped descending. The Seven Orthodox Churches along with the Four Great Nations ruled the Northern Continent. In addition, countless secret organizations have appeared and had been active in the shadows. Ordinary people had no knowledge of the occult, mysticism, or the power of the Gods.
In the Southern Continent, due to the fall of the Death, the Resistance gradually appeared at the sea. The Highlands Kingdom and the Paz Kingdom were founded, before they were destroyed by the invasion from the Northern Continent nations. The Southern Continent was divided into East Balam and West Balam and was in a constant state of civil war. The nations of the Northern Continent have colonized the coastal areas, and the Seven Orthodox Churches were busy proselytizing and converting the natives away from their indigenous belief in Death.
Twenty-Year War and White Rose War[]
In 621-642, the Loen Kingdom and Feysac Empire fought against each other, and eventually, Loen lost the war and lost Sonia Island.
Sometime later, Loen fought another war, namely White Rose War. During this war, Loen defeated Intis and became powerful again.
Battle of the Violated Oath[]
In 738, the southern Feynapotter Kingdom originally believed in both the Earth Mother and the God of Knowledge and Wisdom. Due to some influencing factors, the two churches began to be at odds with each other, and their believers often clashed.
During that period, the Loen Kingdom and the Intis Kingdom seized the opportunity to start a war in the name of protecting freedom of religion. In the late stages of the war, the Feysac Empire joined the fray and attempted to destroy the ploy by Loen and Intis. However, they still failed to turn the situation around.
The result of the war was that at the border between Loen and Feynapotter, as well as Intis and Feynapotter, countries such as Lenburg, Masin, and Segar, gained independence. They solely believed in the God of Knowledge and Wisdom, leaving the Church of the Earth Mother as the only religion in the Feynapotter Kingdom.
The conflict that lasted five years was called the Battle of the Violated Oath because both sides of the war accused their adversaries of violating the Holy Oath at the end of the Fourth Epoch.
Roselle and the Industrial Revolution[]
The Industrial Revolution started with the transmigration of Huang Tao in Roselle Gustav. With the power of the Savant pathway, he could recall everything he knew before transmigration. He invented the steam engine, improved sailboats, and had countless inventions based on his memory. The improved sailboats and the steam engine later cultivated the growing number of pirates and the birth of steamship. The God of Craftsmanship changed "His" name to the God of Steam and Machinery to share in the progress of the enlightenment of civilization, and digested the remnant Sequence 1 potion inside "Him".
In 1173, Roselle overthrew the Intis Kingdom and the royal Sauron Family and became the consul of the Intis Republic. Later, in an effort to promote to Black Emperor, "He" led the Republic into victory in several wars against its neighbours, eventually changing the Republic into an Empire and declaring himself Caesar the Great in 1192.
Around this time, "He" started sending ships to look for the Forsaken Land of the Gods and the Western Continent, but all efforts were in vain. In 1194 "He" discovered a safe sea route to the Southern Continent, which started the era of colonization.
In 1198, "He" was assassinated in the White Maple Palace by the Church of the Eternal Blazing Sun, along with the royals and nobles from the former Intis Kingdom, including the Sauron Family. After "His" death, the Intis Empire returned to the Intis Republic.
But, before "He” died, "He" had already became Sequence 0 Black Emperor of the Black Emperor Pathway.
Colonization of the Southern Continent[]
After the destruction of Death, the Balam Empire started to collapse. They lost control of the Star Highlands and Paz Valley, which established their own kingdom: the Highlands Kingdom and the Paz Kingdom. All of them were later destroyed by the invasion from the Northern Continent nations, which came through the safe sea route found by Roselle. The Southern Continent then was divided by the Loen Kingdom and the Intis Republic, while the Feysac Empire also sent armies trying to get a piece of the cake. From then on, the Kings of the Loen Kingdom also took the title "Emperor of the Balam Empire".
East Balam was relatively peaceful under the colonization of the Loen Kingdom, except for the occasional attack by Feysac on the east coast. West Balam was more chaotic as Loen and Intis both had colonies there and were constantly fighting against each other.
Colonizers built many plantations and manors in the Southern Continent, and many locals became slaves or servants. The Orthodox Churches have been transforming local belief away from Death. However, they never truly succeeded, as the Numinous Episcopate controlled by the Eggers Family was still active, and people of the lower class have been secretly spreading the faith of Death.
Colonization of the Sonia Sea[]
Before Roselle started the era of colonization, the Northern Continent nations have already started sending ships to explore and colonize some islands; for example, Bansy Harbor was occupied by the Loen Kingdom about 300 years ago, Damir Harbor was occupied by Loen over 200 years ago.
The Rorsted Archipelago was completely colonized by the Loen Kingdom less than fifty years ago. Before that, the natives on the Rorsted Archipelago always believed in Sea God Kalvetua (See also: Rorsted Archipelago). The Gargas Archipelago was taken by Feysac Empire.
Power Balance Before the World War[]
World War[]
Post-War[]
After the war, the Church of the Evernight Goddess decided to accept Beyonders of the Church of the God of Combat and the Feysac Empire and only kill those who were extremely loyal, and not advertise the death of the God of Combat to the populace. This was to preserve power for the upcoming apocalypse.[1] As part of the exchange between the Evernight Goddess and Lilith, the Evernight Goddess gave "Her" part of the Authority of the Moon (the Moon Uniqueness) to Lilith,[2] and removed "Her" ‘Lady of Crimson’ title.[3]
The Church of the God of Steam and Machinery lost their standing in Loen Kingdom and was kicked out as a result. They had to transfer all their Grade 2 and above Sealed Artifacts out of the Loen Kingdom within a time limit, and none of their Demigods was allowed to stay in Loen. The Church of the Lord of Storms was given priority to occupy the vacant space left by the Church of the God of Steam and Machinery.[4]
There's a plan for the Church of the Evernight Goddess to join hands with the Church of the Lord of Storms, the Church of the Earth Mother, the Church of the God of Knowledge and Wisdom, the Loen Kingdom, Feynapotter Kingdom, and Lenburg to force the Intis Republic and Feysac Empire into unconditional surrender.
During the war, extraordinary power have been exposed to the common people, especially the veterans who all witnessed it in the battlefield. This has caused an increased number of Beyonders after the war. Many of them become Beyonders after directly consuming Sequence 9 characteristics.[5]
A failed civil war occurred in the Feysac Empire, it was publicly caused by a Einhorn Family rebel and the Empire's extremist faction because their dissatisfaction with their Empire’s losing treaty.[6]
In Spring 1352, the City of Silver and Moon City left the Forsaken Land of the Gods.[7] With help from Alger and Danitz, they settled into their new home in the Rorsted Archipelago, near Bayam city.[8] The Resistance announced their respect for the Church of the Lord of Storms in the Rorsted Archipelago, and thus the Church did not mobilize its power to take back the governance position from the hand of the Resistance. Because the governance was still in its early stage, the connection to the outside world was not as smooth as it can be.
In the same year, Roselle Gustav came back as Sequence 0 Black Emperor, although "He" was in an incomplete status and is also under the corruption from the Primordial Moon. “He” is currently sealed by Klein in a perpetual cycle of Death and Rebirth.[9]
Lord of Mysteries[]
Klein created Utopia as part of the ritual to advance to Sequence 1 Attendant of Mysteries. While in the middle of the ritual, he was attacked by Zaratul and captured by Adam. With the help of the Magic Wishing Lamp, Klein eventually managed to escape, completed his ritual, defeated Zaratul and absorbed "His" Beyonder Characteristics.
At the same time, Amon and Medici's plan for Mr. Door's return reached its climax. Amon managed to steal Mr. Door's apotheosis ritual to become Sequence 0 Error. Shortly after, "He" also accommodated the Uniqueness of the Door Pathway to become a Dual-Pathway True God.
Later, Amon interfered with Klein's ritual of accommodating the Uniqueness of the Fool Pathway. Many other Gods also joined the conflict. Due to various reasons, the purpose of the ritual escalated from ascending to a King of Angels that has accommodated the Uniqueness to directly ascending to Sequence 0 Fool.
Klein eventually succeeded in becoming Sequence 0 Fool, but he was immediately ambushed by Amon inside Sefirah Castle.
Klein finally won and Amon lost both Uniquenesses of the Error and Door Pathway, as well as one of Worm of Time and Key of Stars Characteristics. Then Klein, now Half a Great Old One with the blessings of the Evernight Goddess, fell into a deep sleep within Sefirah Castle with Arrodes in his hand to fight the awakening will of The Celestial Worthy of Heaven and Earth within him.
Years later, Klein, or the new Lord of Mysteries, woke up.
The Outer Deities' Invasion[]
In the period between year 1352 and year 1358 when Book 2 takes place, the invasion on reality by the Outer Deities have deepened. Beyonder incidents have increased in intensity and scale. Non-Standard Pathways from different Outer Deities, and more organizations that worshipped "Them" started emerging on Earth.
When it comes to godhood, among the Outer Deities, only three can bestow godhood without much difficulty: the Mother Goddess of Depravity, the Mother Tree of Desire, and the Uncertain Mist. As for the other beings, if they wish to grant godhood, they have to perform a very complex ritual that would easily be discovered and destroyed.[10] There have been five attempts from the Outer Deities to send Angels down to Earth. Three of them were destroyed in transit, causing only a small area of corruption. While one succeeded, an orthodox god intervened and rectified the situation. The only partial success is the angel Termiboros under the Circle of Inevitability, but "He" was sealed inside the body of Lumian Lee by The Fool.[11]
