“ | Don't underestimate Mr. Gawain because of his residence's surroundings. Although he was never conferred an aristocratic title, he was a true knight back in the day. |

— Leonard Mitchell to Klein Moretti on Lord of Mysteries, Chapter 97 |
Gawain was Klein's combat instructor at Tingen City and contracted to the police department. He was a former ordinary top knight of the Loen Kingdom. He lives in a simple, but in disrepair, two-story house on the North Borough outskirts of Tingen City .The elderly Gawain is assumed to possess the same physical strength as an untrained individual who has just advanced after taking the Sequence 8: Clown potion.[1]
Appearance[]
He had short (crew-cut) blond hair, his brows already laced with white hairs. His facial features looked like they had been ravaged through age, his wrinkles were etched deep across his face. He also has a blonde mustache.[1]
History[]
“ | I once lost 325 friends in the span of five minutes, amongst them were 10 that I could trust with my life. [...] The cruelest thing of all is the fact that I can never exact revenge for them. I can never fulfill their dreams, and the answer eludes me forever. |

— Gawain on Lord of Mysteries, Chapter 165 |
Gawain was active during the waning era of the knights, he belonged to the Awwa Knights. These warriors donning their armors would storm through enemy ranks despite the gunfire and cannon fire, destroying their enemies and redefining the battle lines. But alas, they were quickly met with the invention of the high-pressure steam guns and six-barrel machine guns. From then on, the knights had to gradually step down. Gawain met the same fate. More than twenty years before he became Klein's instructor, the Awwa Knights' Order of Chivalry faced the most advanced weaponry of the Intis Republic army.
Gawain has contracted with the police department in Tingen City, hence he was hired to be Klein's combat instructor starting Tuesday ,July 17, 1349.[2] The training is two hours daily from Tuesday to Friday, but three hours for the first month of training.[3] At the next stage in mid August, he taught Klein the basic footwork for punching and the techniques for delivering force.[4]
By August 31, 1349, Klein guessed he became as strong as Gawain after taking the Clown potion, and would become stronger after one month of specialized training. This is the difference between an average person and a Beyonder.[5] Gawain expected after mastering weapons, would take two to three weeks of combat experience as the next training stage.[6]
On September 9, 1349, Klein's training with Gawain was suspended for a week to learn tailing techniques and monitoring skills from Leonard and Frye, however, it was the last time Gawain will see him.[7]
Klein's Combat Training[]
From his demonstrations, Teacher Gawain’s strength is still quite terrifying, and his steps are swift too. I reckon it wouldn’t be a problem for him to fight three of me… He has the pay from the police station, and he also bought a plot of land in a village out in the Tingen suburbs that provides a fixed rental… He hires a chef, a maidservant, and a laundry maiden… In the Foodaholic Empire on Earth, a man in his fifties with such wealth would have been traveling the world…
Four days weekly, Tuesday to Friday for 2 hours in the afternoon. For the 1st month, it will be 3 hours a day from 2-5pm due to Klein's below-average physique.[3]
