— Ludwig Phil on Circle of Inevitability, Chapter 582 |
Ludwig Phil is the former godson of Baron Brignais and hails from Lenburg. He has a special constitution which gives him an almost insatiable appetite. He was later adopted by Lumian Lee as his godson.
"He" is an Angel of the Tail-Devourer Pathway under the Primordial Hunger who was sealed by the Church of the God of Knowledge and Wisdom.
Appearance[]
Ludwig appears as a boy of about seven or eight, with yellow hair, brown eyes, and chubby cheeks. He doesn't appear overweight, only solidly built. He has an honest and innocent aura.
Dressed like a young gentleman, he donned a caramel coat with brass buttons, a black-and-white checkered shirt, and a linen coat. He wore black strapless leather shoes and white socks paired with a dark-red school bag that appeared somewhat heavy and solid.
Personality[]
Ludwig exudes an air of simplicity and honesty. He talks and acts like a child, and is a bit foolish at times. He does not like constantly studying but is very passionate about food and is an expert connoisseur, possibly due to his pathway.
Despite his identity as a sealed Angel, he acts just like an ordinary little boy. According to Jenna, this is partly due to the Church of Knowledge's seal, and also because he's learned rules, morals, and common sense about human society through studying.[3]
Background[]
Among the Outer Deities' attempts to send down Angels to the Earth (excluding Termiboros), three were destroyed in transit, one succeeded but an Orthodox God intervened and rectified the situation.[4] It can be inferred that the successful attempt was Ludwig, and the Orthodox God in question is the God of Knowledge and Wisdom.
Ludwig is actually a sealed Angel of the Tail-Devourer Pathway.[5]
Lumian Lee speculated that due to being sealed by the Church of the God of Knowledge and Wisdom which controlled the Reader Pathway known for various applications at the Body of Heart and Mind level, Ludwig's mind had suffered some damage, rendering him seemingly foolish.[6]
Equipment[]
- One of Klein's Gold Coins
History[]
Volume 3: Conspirer[]
Ludwig was first seen standing with Baron Brignais at the Suhit steam locomotive station in Trier.

— Termiboros to Lumian Lee about Ludwig on Circle of Inevitability, Chapter 310 |
Sometime after, Lumian Lee who was masquerading as 'Ciel Dubois' at the Salle de Bal Brise, received a report that Brignais' illegitimate son had gone missing. Soon after, Termiboros intervened and directed Lumian to the missing boy, Ludwig, who was hiding nearby, eating some live rats.[7]
He had apparently run away from his godfather, Brignais due to not wanting to go back to attending classes, studying, doing homework, taking practice tests, and sitting for exams. He then claimed he was a believer of the God of Knowledge and Wisdom, much to Lumians suspicion. He was later taken away by Brignais.
Lumian later encountered Brignais and Ludwig at an art exhibition in the Trier Art Center while searching for the missing Gabriel. While continuing his search, he accidentally saw Ludwig through the Mystery Prying Glasses for a moment. Ludwig's chubby face had took on an unsettling transformation; his skin seemed to writhe, as if it were on the verge of shedding, and something from beneath the surface attempted to burrow out.[8]
After the events following the door to Fourth Epoch Trier opening came to a close, Lumian returned home, only to find Ludwig waiting for him with a request to get him out of Trier, and a "reward" for doing it prepared beforehand. The reward turned out to be top secret information from the Church of the God of Knowledge and Wisdom on Sealed Artifact 0-01, Salinger's Blood Banner.[9]
Volume 4: Sinner[]
With this, Ludwig began his travels with Lumian. They shortly left Trier and headed to the Feynapotter Kingdom.
During the Sea Prayer Ritual in Port Santa, Ludwig was kidnapped by Loki to be used in his advancement ritual to Sequence 4 Bizarro Sorcerer. However, upon attempting to turn Ludwig into his marionette, Loki discovered that Ludwig possessed abnormal vitality, and couldn't easily be controlled. Ludwig then began eating Loki's left hand, ignoring his repeated attacks, which led to Loki giving up and fleeing.[10]
After the Dream Festival of 1358, Ludwig received one of Klein's Gold Coins from Reinette Tinekerr as part of a deal.[1]
Volume 5: Demoness[]
He is revealed by Madam Magician to be an Angel. According to her, Ludwig was sent by the Church of the God of Knowledge and Wisdom to Lumian in order to simplify his Sequence 4 Iron-blooded Knight ritual, as Angels can offset most quantity requirements.[5]
During Project Vortex, the School of Deliciousness which follows the Primordial Hunger tried to reclaim Ludwig back to their side.[11] When Higdon of the Order of All Extinction and Voisin Sanson of the Sinners came to capture Ludwig as a part of some deal, he believed it was best to cooperate with the two elders in front of him and let them take him away. But in the end, Ludwig stays by Lumian's side because he was persuaded to prepare a grand feast for him, threatened with being sent back to the Church of the God of Knowledge and Wisdom, and because Ludwig is enjoying his current life.[12]
Volume 6: Dream Weaver[]
In 1359, along with Lumian Lee, Franca Roland, Jenna and Anthony Reid, Ludwig Phil entered the The Fool's Dream in an attempt to wake him up.[13]
Ludwig's Cookbook[]
Ice Lemon Fish fillets[]
Ice Lemon Fish fillets are made from Furth Firefish's meat, blood from a Mid-Sequence Beyonder of the Hunter pathway, ice, and lemon juice. After consuming them for the first time, one permanently gains reduced damage from flames. Subsequent consumption enhances this effect, but it only lasts for half an hour.[14]
Source of Life[]
Source of Life includes nine main staple ingredients: wheat, oats, rye, rice, potatoes, sweet potatoes, corn, cassava, and any type of bean. These ingredients are cooked with Omebella’s umbilical cord in cow's or sheep's milk for half an hour until ready to eat.[15]
This dish can somewhat alter a person's aura and lineage, causing certain creatures lacking the necessary wisdom to perceive them as a divine child of the 'Great Mother.'[16]
The Color of Dreams[]
The Color of Dreams is a cocktail. It has a golden base, with green and black intertwining colors on top, and looks quite beautiful.
It is made by pouring nearly 100 milliliters of Lanti Proof into a glass, then adding the residual dust of a Black Dream Tapir, lemon juice, ice cubes, a type of kilju, and other ingredients.[17]
It can prevent the drinker from being deceived by the beauty of dreams, sinking into them, and refusing to wake up. At the same time, each time you drink that wine, you can clearly distinguish between reality and dreams for the next ten days.[18]
Trivia[]
- His general schedule includes eating every two hours.[19]
- Madam Magician's messenger is secretly afraid of Ludwig and refers to him as "it".[20]
- Ludwig didn't eat Mad Lady's corpse as he considered it "too dirty" due to severe corruption from the Celestial Worthy.[21]
- Franca and Jenna used to threaten Ludwig with studies or homework to digest their Sequence 5 Affliction potions.[22][23]
- Edwina Edwards was one of Ludwig's former teachers.[24]
