— Monette to Lumian Lee on Circle of Inevitability, Chapter 269 |
Monette used to be a tenant at the Auberge du Coq Doré Hotel. He once swindled Charlie out of 10 verl d’or before leaving the hotel. He is one of Amon's avatars and a member of Salle de Bal Unique.
Appearance[]
A slender young man in his mid-twenties, possessed of dark skin and sunken eyes. His lips were thick, and his slightly curly black hair marked him as a descendant of the Fog Sea Islander lineage. However, compared to his fellow islanders, he appeared somewhat more presentable.
History[]
Monette stated that he borrowed 10 verl d'or from Charlie, purportedly to assist him in finding employment. However, Monette himself fell victim to a scam and lost all the money. Unable to confront Charlie, he discreetly left the Auberge du Coq Doré.[1]
According to him, Monette fell victim to a double scam. Initially, he was approached by individuals who convinced him to invest in shares for the expansion of Salle de Bal Unique in Quartier de l’Observatoire, each valued at 200 verl d’or. Being enticed by the prospect of profits from the prosperous dance hall, he invested his savings. However, he later discovered that the share subscription certificate he received was fraudulent. When he confronted the individuals responsible, he was deceived once again.[2]
During the second instance, he confronted the group of swindlers who had duped him earlier. These individuals openly admitted their deceitful intentions and declined to return his money. They boldly stated that involving the authorities would yield no results. In a strange twist, they were impressed by Monette's predicament and offered him to learn their art of deception from them. In the end, they merely taught him and only gave him a transparent monocle.[2]
When Monette wore a monocle on his right eye, Lumian sensed an inexplicable change in Monette as if he had transformed into a different character altogether. Lumian felt a subtle unease, but he detected no immediate danger.[2]
While Lumian was searching for a place to arrange a boon ritual for the Contractee in Underground Trier, he encountered Monette, who claimed it was a coincidence. As he passed by, Termiboros asked Lumian to relocate, sensing a looming threat from him. After the incident, Lumian briefly recounted it in a letter to Madam Magician. According to her reply, Monette is actually related to the curtain individual.[3]
Later, Lumian found that someone had infiltrated his safe house and stolen the Earth Blood ore. Madam Magician suggested he could venture to the entrance of Salle de Bal Unique and look for anyone with a monocle in their right eye for a suspect.[4]
In the fourth level of Catacombs de Trier, Lumian and Hela encountered Monette, who claimed to be a tomb adventurer. Hela informed Lumian that he was tied to the Amon Family of the Fourth Epoch.[5] As they passed by, Lumian and Hela headed towards the end of the tomb. Lumian discovered that the Earth Blood ore had been returned to his pocket.[6]
Lumian concluded that it was Monette who had stolen the Earth Blood ore. Since Lumian had never intended to take the Earth Blood ore underground, Monette’s theft and return of the ore allowed Lumian to bring the specimen to the Samaritan Women’s Spring without detection, triggering the bizarre turn of events.[7]
Madam Magician later confirm that Monette's true identity is Amon.[8]
Later, Lumian experienced the fugue state, the faint bell chimes, and the alterations in Salle de Bal Unique’s guards, detailing them to his Major Arcana card.[9] Madam Magician replied that Mr. Fool’s Angel of Time was in operation, eliminating all the Amons in Trier.[10]
In the subsequent period, Jenna received a commission to steal the tearcatcher from the Thorns and Shieldwall Tomb in the Catacombs. It was revealed that the commissioner was Monette.[11] Madam Judgement believed that the person who led them to the catacomb to find the Tamara Family’s tomb and discovered the Mirror World Fragment was likely targeting that special Mirror World and the Demoness Sect.[12]
Trivia[]
- Based on the abilities displayed by Monette, it is likely that he possesses Beyonder powers of the Error Pathway.[4][7]
