Mystery Prying Glasses is a Grade 3 Sealed Artifact currently in possession of Lumian Lee. It came from a painter who was a Sequence 9, Lawyer of the Black Emperor Pathway. After he died, his Beyonder characteristic together with his Sequence 7 Painter boon fused into his glasses, creating a unique mystical item.[1]
Appearance[]
A pair of gold-rimmed glasses with a teal-colored tint. The seemingly metallic material had an odd rubbery texture.
History[]
An artifact left by a painter who died, leaving behind an enigmatic oil painting that carries a powerful psychic imprint.[2] He was a Lawyer of the Black Emperor Pathway, and probably had a Painter boon, his Beyonder characteristic along with the boon power fused into his glasses.
The painter was a friend of one participant of Mr. K's gathering, after his death Mr. K obtained this artifact and sold it to Lumian Lee for 15,000 verl d'or.
Lumian named it, Mystery Prying Glasses, because it reminded him of Aurore Lee's pathway.
Power & Downside[]
Power[]
It allows the wearer to perceive things invisible to the naked eye. Occasionally, one can glimpse the truth of this world to some extent.
- For example, Lumian was able to use those glasses to find the way out of a Mirror World.[3]
It allows the wearer to paint works with various effects.
- A painting of a golden-red sun that can make the surrounding feel warm, and has a simple exorcism effect.[4][5]
- A painting that can cause mental damage to those who look at it.
- When Lumian first used it, he guessed those painting could keep their effect preserve for about two months when folded. And only three days at most, when they are unfurled.[4]
If the wearer apply various cosmetics to his face instead of painting on canvas, he can achieve an excellent disguise. Anyone examining his face will be convinced that it is his true appearance, even if it is temporary.
- It can be used to imitate a person's face instead of designing a new one, hair and eye color would require tinting, and contact lenses.[6]
Downside[]
Seeing what should remain unseen and perceiving the truth of the world without adequate protection exposes to unknown dangers.
Each time after wearing them, by perceiving the world from a different perspective and witnessing the once-invisible, the wearer will be seized by an uncontrollable urge to paint. Each painting produced will possess supernatural effects. For instance, a painting of an ocean will make onlookers feel as if they’re drowning.
The wearer can use makeup on his face instead of painting on a canvas to disguise himself, however if someone looks too often at his own face while in disguise, he'll be convinced that it is his real face. Slowly but surely, his body and mind will transform until he becomes an entirely different person. After three hours or more, his self-perception will gradually succumb to the influence of the disguise, until he truly believes that he is the same person.
