— Archbishop Chanis, founder of the Nighthawks on Lord of Mysteries, Chapter 18 |
The Nighthawks is a division of Beyonders under the Church of the Evernight Goddess. they usually act undercover as law enforcement or security companie. They address supernatural issues related to believers of the Evernight Goddess.
Characteristics[]
General[]
Nighthawks are mostly Beyonders of the Darkness Pathway.
A Nighthawk's equipment includes a revolver, handcuffs, and Charms. They can borrow Sealed Artifacts when needed by following a procedure.
They have strict confidentiality laws and are prohibited from letting ordinary people know of their presence. Violators are tried in the tribunal courts of the Church of the Evernight Goddess instead of the kingdom’s courts.
Jurisdiction[]
Nighthawks are situated locally and have regions under their jurisdiction; in Tingen, they control the Golden Indus Borough, the North Borough, and the West Borough.[1]
They are not permitted to capture criminals outside of their area of jurisdiction, unless the involved parties are believers of only the Evernight Goddess. For example, the case of Mrs. Sinel was assigned to the Blackthorn Security Company due to the fact that Mrs. Sinel was a believer of the Evernight Goddess, even though the university area fell under the jurisdiction of the Machinery Hivemind.[2]
Salary[]
Their funds are guaranteed by the Church of the Evernight and the police department.
Official Tingen Nighthawks start at 6 pounds a week.[3] For experienced Nighthawks at Sequence 9, their weekly salary will increase to 10 pounds.[4]
The increase in salary for Nighthawks is firstly dependent on years of service, second on contribution, and third on the level of their job. The third criterion is often highly correlated with their contributions.[4]
Their salary is tax-free.[5]
Red Gloves[]
The Red Gloves is the code name for the elite team of Nighthawks. Because Nighthawks are limited to their area of jurisdiction, some evildoers would change their location after every crime, making it terribly inconvenient for them. To deal with this, the Church of the Evernight Goddess set up the Red Gloves.[6]
The Red Gloves are carefully selected elites, some even possessing incomplete holy items. Their mission is to reinforce Nighthawk teams that called for help, as well as track down and arrest evildoers without any restrictions. In some circles, they are also called “Pursuers” or “Hunting Dogs.”
The minimum requirement for Red Gloves is Sequence 7.
Trivia[]
- According to Old Neil, in order to become an official member, one has to complete a mission independently. It's a ritual among Nighthawks.[7]
