Only death endures forever!

— Sallent
on Circle of Inevitability, Chapter 321

The Numinous Episcopate is a secret organization founded in the early Fifth Epoch.[1] They originate from the Southern Continent and seek to revive Death, the first Underworld Emperor, who perished in the Fourth Epoch.

History[]

After Death perished in the late Fourth Epoch, the Balam Empire and the Church of Death which ruled the Southern Continent collapsed as a result. A few surviving members of the Eggers Family then started a new secret organization. The Numinous Episcopate was thus formed with goal of resurrecting Death.

However, the Seven Orthodox Churches knew of their intentions and were quite proactive in rooting them out. After the colonial era, they almost vanished under attacks by the Seven Orthodox Churches, however, they stubbornly survived and spread toward the countries of the Northern Continent.[2] The Church of the Evernight Goddess consider them as one of their main targets.[3]

Later, when the Evernight Goddess acquired the Uniqueness of the Death Pathway, "She" began to usurp the authority of Death from Artificial Death.[4] "She" entrusted Klein Moretti with managing the Artificial Death Faction of the Numinous Episcopate in Backlund through Patrick Bryan.[5]

Two members of the Royal Family Faction, Reaza and Maslow, were ordered to take part in the Dream Festival of 1358, conducted in Tizamo Town of West Balam. Their goal was to obtain the ancient Death Mask inside the tomb in the Dream Festival's center, which had endured corrosion from the River of Eternal Darkness for over a millennium.[6][7]

Philosophy[]

Their members believe that death is not the end and that everything can be reversed, even the dead can be resurrected.[8]

Characteristics[]

Although they don’t resort to blood sacrifices or terrorism like some secret faith-based organizations, rituals are inherent to their nature. The Numinous Episcopate’s pursuit of Death's revival necessitates sacrificial rites.

In the Southern Continent, the Numinous Episcopate holds a comparable status to the Rose School of Thought. One of their goals is to eradicate the colonists and rebuild the Balam Empire.[9]

Factions[]

Numinous Episcopate has many factions in their organization.[10]

The strongest faction is the Royal Family Faction. With the descendants of the Eggers Family as the core, they have established many organizations. Besides their leader, Sia Palenque Eggers, the royal family faction has five other saint apostles. Some of them are true demigods, while others rely on Sealed Artifacts.

In the Artificial Death Faction, the leader is Haiter who was once an archbishop of the Church of Death from the time of the Balam Empire. They have three saints and an angel in West Balam.[5]

The other factions are relatively weaker. The main ones are the Repose Faction and the Underworld Faction. Only by working together do they have three powerful Beyonders who are equivalent to the saint apostles.
