— Snowman on Lord of Mysteries, Chapter 1063 |
Ouroboros was one of the 8 Kings of Angels under the Ancient Sun God, known as the Angel of Fate. "He" is a King of Angels of the Wheel of Fortune Pathway.
Appearance[]
"He" is a tall and thin man with long, silver hair reaching "His" back. "He" has soft facial features.
History[]
Lord of Mysteries[]
Ouroboros had been a follower of the Ancient Sun God since "He" was just a Saint.[5] "He" later joined Rose Redemption, which eventually caused the fall of the Ancient Sun God.
After the fall of the Ancient Sun God and the departure of the other Kings of Angels, Ouroboros became the leader of Rose Redemption, and together with Medici, "They" have been following the True Creator ever since. According to Will Auceptin, every time Ouroboros is reborn, "He" grows up by the side of the True Creator.[6] "He" also must start over from a "Snake Egg", slowly grow back up, and eventually grow back into "His" former form.[7]
At some point, "He" was hunting the God of Luck, but the opportunity fell on Will Auceptin who rose up as an Angel during the Fourth Epoch.[8] In the Fourth Epoch, "He" was one of the highest nobles in the Solomon Empire.
Based on the mural in the half-destroyed temple discovered by Derrick Berg,[9] as well as the murals chanced upon by Anderson Hood and his treasure-hunting team,[10] it seems that at some point during the Fourth Epoch, Ouroboros had led members of Rose Redemption across the sea and entered the Forsaken Land of the Gods. Along the way, the pilgrims had built temples for the True Creator, and they housed Ouroboros' murals that were imbued with Misfortunes or Cycles of Fate from "His" Authority.[11]
Klein met "Him" for the first time when "He" used Tinder in Calderón City, attracting the gaze of the True Creator. Ouroboros was sent to investigate and attempted to stop Klein using a Reboot but was unsuccessful.
"He" was watching over Lewis Wien from the shadows but was diverted by Will's subordinates using the Die of Probability as bait. "He" had also blessed the Saint of Secrets Botis with good luck to avoid the backlash of the Box of the Great Old Ones.
In 1350 of the Fifth Epoch, due to arrangements by the Quill of Alzuhod, "He" was summoned inside the Corpse Cathedral when Adam was cornering Ince Zangwill in Revival Square. "He" used Reboot to revert the formation of the Corpse Cathedral; however, before "He" and Ince Zangwill could escape completely, Adam contained them within the Corpse Cathedral again.[12] At some point before the fight between Klein and Ince Zangwill concluded, "He" managed to escape from the Corpse Cathedral.[13]
When Adam arrived in the Forsaken Land of the Gods to fuse with the True Creator, Ouroboros was also present, praying with "His" eyes closed the whole time. Adam left Arrodes to Ouroboros after using it and the Second Blasphemy Slate to establish a connection with the Chaos Sea; Ouroboros finally opened "His" eyes to look at Arrodes, the mirror tried to bargain with "Him" so that it could return to Klein.[14] When Klein arrived after defeating Amon, Arrodes was left on the ground with Ouroboros gone.
Circle of Inevitability[]
In 1358, Ouroboros acted as the Sufferer hidden around Lumian Lee, also as a collaborator of Amon/Termiboros throughout the story, from the Cordu Village disaster to the Tree of Shadow incident.[15]
Ouroboros was present in The Fool's Dream as President Wu, the head of the Aurora Company. "He" often smoked with Sauron-Einhorn-Medici and was mocked by Zhou Mingrui as being "not very smart looking".
During The Apocalypse, "He" worked together with Will Auceptin and the Holy Monk to achieve the status of a Quasi-Key of Light and fight against the Outer Deities.
After The Apocalypse, The Fool mentioned that the Key of Light remains unpredictable. When and who among "Them" will ascend to a Great Old Dominator depends on luck and opportunity.[16]
Trivia[]
- "His" Chinese name is "乌洛琉斯", which is not directly translatable as it is a made-up name containing the prefix of "乌洛波洛斯 (Ouroboros)". "Ouroboros" is highly likely to be the basis for Cuttlefish's made-up name, as he was probably intentionally making a reference to what it symbolizes. Thus, this character is referred to as "Ouroboros" in the English translation.
- In real-life, Ouroboros is an ancient symbol of a snake or serpent eating its own tail, variously signifying infinity and the cycle of birth and death.[17]
- In the side story "In Modern Day," "He" is Vice President Wu of the company next door to Zhou Mingrui's. "He" is quite popular among girls, often receiving flowers and treats from them. Influenced by his deceased friend, "He" picked up smoking. "He" is reticent, avoiding conversation and questions. Zhou Mingrui's impression of "Him" is that "He" doesn't seem particularly sharp.[2]
