— Patrick to Dwayne Dantès on Lord of Mysteries, Chapter 976 |
On the surface Patrick Bryan is a businessman of two garment factories who is a believer of the Evernight Goddess.
He is a demigod of the Death Pathway and is a member of the Numinous Episcopate’s Artificial Death faction, although, his knowledge of Artificial Death is very different from reality. He has twelve Beyonders of the Numinous Episcopate under him in Backlund.
Appearance[]
A man about Dwayne Dantès’s age, and of similar height. He had black hair and brown eyes. He had cut facial features, a classic example of a Loenese man.
He wore a silk top hat and had a rather thin face. His demeanor was cold but wasn’t one that left others feeling uncomfortable. Instead, it was a manifestation of the night view at a suburban cemetery.
Contracted Messenger[]
The contracted creature that belongs to Patrick Bryan.
Spirit wandering above the world,
Absolutely friendly creature,
Patrick Bryan’s Contract Companion.
Background[]
He is Loenese and he once did business in East Balam and nearly died because of a disease. He was rescued by members of the Numinous Episcopate. Later, he secretly changed his faith to Death.
Klein suspected that Patrick is actually just an experimental subject of the Numinous Episcopate. They didn't intend to save Patrick. However, something unexpected happened during their attempt which led to Patrick Bryan's survival and his establishment of a certain connection with Artificial Death.
They began viewing Patrick as the key to the success of the Artificial Death project. They gave him potions and taught him, inducting him to the faith of Death; thus, fabricating a perfect excuse for themselves. Due to his specialness, he advanced rapidly and became a demigod in 10 years.[4]
History[]
After Klein, in the identity of Dwayne Dantès, returned from West Balam, Patrick Bryan secretly visited him that night. Patrick claimed to have received a revelation from Death—who is, in truth, the Evernight Goddess, having claimed the Death Pathway’s Uniqueness—to heed Klein’s commands and follow his arrangements.[4]
Under the guise of a sermon, Klein instructed Patrick to search for clues related to Death. He also ordered Patrick to relay any directives from the Numinous Episcopate in the Southern Continent to him. These orders can only be done with Klein's permission; without it, Patrick is not permitted to act on them independently.
Later, the Numinous Episcopate’s Artificial Death faction instructed Patrick to perform a special ritual to restore the High Priest Haiter, allowing "Him" to temporarily break free from "His" sealed state. Klein suspected that the organization might have begun to question Patrick's loyalty.[1] He also prepared to use this event to act as a Bizarro Sorcerer.[2]
Near midnight, in an abandoned clothing factory in St. George Borough, Patrick and his subordinates conducted a special ritual. As the ritual began, Haiter attempted to use the power of enslavement that higher Sequence Beyonders of the Death pathway hold over lower Sequence Beyonders, allowing "Him" to access Patrick's information directly. However, with Klein’s interference using Angel’s Embrace, Patrick was freed from "His" influence and responded to Haiter in a half-truthful manner, leaving Haiter unsuspecting.[5]
Haiter sent Patrick an assistant: a Gatekeeper, who arrived via the Underworld Gate. However, with the true vision of the Gray Fog, Klein recognized the assistant as none other than Sauron-Einhorn-Medici. This realization prompted Klein to immediately leave the area, abandoning his initial plan to act as a Bizarro Sorcerer.[5]
