— Roselle's Diary on Lord of Mysteries, Chapter 59 |
A nameless island located in the Fog Sea near the Abyss' entrance.[1]
Appearance[]
On the island, there were huge, towering, dark-green trees that almost bordered on black covering the ground and mountain. No birds were chirping, no wild beast roars, or disturbances caused by crawling insects. It was so peaceful as if time had frozen, so dead that there was no sign of life.
Roselle's Last Mausoleum[]
A pitch-black mausoleum stood there with a majestic appearance. The mausoleum didn’t look like the common pyramid. Instead, it looked more like a towering mountain. It wasn’t exactly symmetrical, but it was definitely majestic. Engraved on the mausoleum’s surface was the Civil Code established and promulgated by Roselle, along with his new social customs and inventions.
History[]
Lord of Mysteries[]
In his early days, Roselle embarked on an adventure with his knights—Grimm, William, Perry, Edwards, and Benjamin—during which they stumbled upon a mysterious island in the Fog Sea. While exploring, Grimm died of an unknown infection, and the island’s influence unknowingly corrupted all of them.[2]
After becoming High-Sequence Beyonders, Roselle and his knights returned to this island, where they encountered extraordinary creatures performing rituals. They discovered a unique form of corruption that allowed dead creatures to return and be reborn on the island.[3]
With a determination to reach Sequence 0 of the Black Emperor Pathway, Roselle secretly constructed one of his nine mausoleums there with the help of the island’s creatures.[4]
Following the failure of the George III's Apotheosis Ritual in 1350, Roselle was resurrected in this mausoleum but chose to seal "Himself" to prevent "His" corrupted form from causing a catastrophe.
Guided by her father's diary, Bernadette later sought out the mysterious island, believing it to hold Roselle’s final mausoleum.[5] She encountered the reanimated Edwards, her father's former knight:
“ | His Majesty’s mausoleum is nearby. I’ve been guarding this place, waiting for ‘Him’ to revive. But after so many years, the mausoleum has never changed. There haven’t been any signs of a resurrection. |

— Edwards to Bernadette Gustav on Lord of Mysteries, Chapter 1302 |
Edwards revealed that, aside from himself and Benjamin, the other knights had become corrupted and now worshiped an unknown entity. This was later identified as the Mother Goddess of Depravity. Bernadette eventually met the corrupted Roselle in the mausoleum. With the help of a symbol from Pale Death and assistance from The Fool, Bernadette successfully sealed Roselle, who forbade her from ever returning.[6]
Circle of Inevitability[]
By 1358 of the Fifth Epoch, the School of Truth was actively searching for Roselle’s final mausoleum.[7]
In 1359, uncertain of The Fool’s victory over the Celestial Worthy of Heaven and Earth for Blessings and his eventual awakening, Bernadette collaborated with Perle, who helped her bypass Roselle’s "ban". Perle then initiated the Project Vortex, which involved many transactions between the Outer Deities on the island.[8]
