It’s because the Black Emperor has appeared. Fate tells me that the glory of the Blood Emperor will appear once again!

— Rafter Pound
on Lord of Mysteries, Chapter 456

Rafter Pound was the former owner of the house in Williams Street connected to Tudor-Trunsoest Underground Ruins, an abject noble on the verge of bankruptcy. Millet Carter bought the house in Williams Street and discovered an ancient underground structure beneath the house, so he hired Sherlock Moriarty to investigate the ruins.

Later, it was revealed that he was a descendant of the Tudor Family.

Appearance[]

Rafter Pound was a man his early forties with light blue eyes and brown hair, but the sides of his hair had turned white. He had puffy eyes and clear wrinkles on his face.

History[]

After obtaining the title of viscount for their contribution in the Battle of the Violated Oath, Pound family remained loyal to the royal family, enjoying some military influence and their own fiefdom. Thirty-two years ago, the old Viscount Pound's two heirs allegedly died of serious illness, one after another.[1] The old Viscount Pound adopted a distant nephew, Rafter Pound, as his heir; he passed away not long after.

Rafter Pound lost most of his family's fortune in next eight years and was demoted to a baron; the house in Williams Street was sold during this time. In the years that followed, his title was reduced again to baronet. He remained in Backlund and continued his life of debaucheries; his current residence was in Sivellaus Street, where the capital's police department was headquartered.

Klein suspected that the old Viscount's heirs probably died in the underground structure and left behind their corpses with Beyonder characteristics. In the disguise of a clown, Klein went to confirm the details with Rafter Pound in person with dream and spirit channeling, which revealed the odd behaviors from the old Viscount Pound and their blank-faced servants. Before his death, the old viscount told Rafter Pound to "maintain the family" and "remember the glory of the ancestors".

After the encounter, Klein used Rafter Pound's secretly collected hair strands to divine his future, and saw the scene of Rafter Pound crawling out of a hole then wearing a dark-iron emblem of Tudor Family on his chest.[2] Klein made further speculations that the servants were sent from the royal household and the churches, and Rafter Pound might have deceived his prior channeling with the abilities of a Lawyer.

Rafter Pound later dug a hidden tunnel in an abandoned chapel of Williams Street to arrive at the underground ruin, but over there he was intercepted by Sherlock Moriarty and Sharron. Mistaking the two for the evil spirit in the underground structure, Rafter Pound tried to persuade them to cooperate with him, believing that the recent appearance of Hero Bandit Black Emperor must be closely related to the real Black Emperor and the glory of the Blood Emperor would appear once again. Sharron refused the offer, and immediately Rafter Pound was possessed by the evil spirit.[3]

When Fors observed the presence of the Feysac and Intis foreigners in Williams Street[4] as well as the signs of the abandoned chapel being dug up with fingers, Klein assumed that Rafter Pound might still be controlled by the evil spirit and decided to divine into his current status.[5] Rafter Pound was found in an abnormal state compared to when they last saw him. Then, Klein entrusted Fors with the mission to informing the Church of the Evernight Goddess and the Church of the God of Steam and Machinery of the foreigners' presence.[6]

Rafter Pound died during one of his revelries.[7] The Nighthawks together with the Machinery Hivemind took notice of his death and destroyed Williams Street.
