The River of Eternal Darkness (永暗之河, River of Perpetual Darkness, Yǒngàn Zhī Hé) is one of the nine Sefirot on Earth, a legacy left behind by the Original Creator. It is one of two Sefirot making up the Fourth Pillar, a hidden Pillar formed passively upon the point when "the end of the universe" arrives.[1][2]

It corresponds to the Eternal Darkness group. The Phoenix Ancestor Gregrace was supposedly searching for the River before "Her" death, and there are said to be clues of its whereabouts left in Calderón City, "Her" former kingdom within the Spirit World.[3]

Appearance[]

A broad, straight, dark, and colorless river flows silently, heralding the stillness of fate and the proclamation of death. Within the illusory dark waters, figures dressed like the Haoli Sect master appeared, floating and sinking.

This was a river that did not Loop. It always moved forward.

Even death itself would dissipate within its currents.[4][5]

History[]

During the early-mid stages of the First Epoch, the Celestial Worthy of Heaven and Earth for Blessings accommodated the River of Eternal Darkness. This left "His" consciousness and psyche in the Sefirah after "His" death.[6]

After the Primordial God Almighty and the Celestial Worthy of Heaven and Earth for Blessings's death at the hands of each other, the River of Eternal Darkness was sealed in the Western Continent by the Celestial Worthy along with 6 other Sefirot.[7] The River of Eternal Darkness became the Sefirah of the Haoli Sect.[8]

As time went by, the seal of the Western Continent gradually weakened.

In the Second Epoch, the Sefirot corroded the Uniquenesses and High-Sequence characteristics within their own symbolic range to affect the outside world. The River of Eternal Darkness was the first to seep out energy and formed a distributary through Phoenix Ancestor Gregrace to the outside world.[7] "She" later hid the clues concerning the River of Eternal Darkness in "Her" divine kingdom, Calderón City.[3]

In the Fourth Epoch, Salinger indirectly managed to get a hold of the River of Eternal Darkness' distributary. "He" forcefully used it to accommodated the Uniqueness of the Red Priest Pathway and tried to create a new path to become a Great Old One. "He" became Half a Great Old One, but also went mad.[9][7] He also left his foreshadowing of resurrection in the River of Eternal Darkness before he fell.[10]

Sometime during the Fourth Epoch or Fifth Epoch, another distributary formed in Underground Trier in the form of the Samaritan Women's Spring. Its river water had been used by subsequent Beyonders of the Darkness, Death and Twilight Giant Pathways to conduct Ritualistic Magic and Advancement Rituals.[11][12] In 1358 of the Fifth Epoch, Hela and Audrey Hall obtained a bottle of distributary water respectively due to Lumian Lee's Tarot Club mission.[13] When following Harrison, Franca Roland obtained some water from the Spring later at Mr. Star's behest.[?] Another distributary was encountered in Tizamo Town's Dream Festival at a black tomb sealing Naboredisley.[14]

As of The Day of Many Disasters, the Evernight Goddess had established a connection with the source river through working with Amandina, the Underworld Daoist disciple. In the next one year, "She" fulfilled the necessary steps to attain partial control over the Sefirah. During The Apocalypse, the seal over the Western Continent was lifted. After the Evernight Goddess made an oath on the River of Eternal Darkness, the Underworld Daoist transferred the position of the Haoli Sect Master to "Her", allowing "Her" to fully accommodate the Sefirah.[8]

Power & Abilities[]

The River of Eternal Darkness is the symbol of death, repose, destination, endpoint, and darkness...etc

死亡、永眠、终点、尽头、深暗...等事物. Every time someone dies, they will leave an imprint in the River of Eternal Darkness. Once the number of deaths reaches a certain level, their true bodies might be attracted to the River of Eternal Darkness one day, ending up as one of the figures that wander around there for an eternity.[15] The distributaries show pale-white waters.[?]

For the Twilight Giant, Darkness and Death pathways, the river water of the River of Eternal Darkness serves diverse purposes determined by its utilization, rituals, and compatibility. It can be used for temporarily clearing memories, healing essential damage to the spirit, improving one's spiritual perception, becoming an ingredient for important rituals, and for unlocking various abilities, among other uses. It can also be used by Beyonders of any pathway to erase all memories and feelings, becoming an entirely new person.[11]

The main river can act as 'passages' through its tributaries and allow transmission beyond sealed space-time, evident by Underworld Daoist.

The main river also has an oath binding-contract property "Oath of the River Styx" that even a Sequence 0 cannot undo, even after said Sequence 0 had accommodated the Sefirah and ascended to a Great Old One.[8]
