Ma’am Hermit, I have to emphasize that it’s Sanguine, not Vampire. Heh heh, I won’t object it if you call those humans who consume the characteristics of my kinsmen vampires. I would even be very agreeable to it.

Emlyn White to Cattleya
on Lord of Mysteries, Chapter 595

Sanguines are what we usually call vampires. They live a very long life, drink blood, and sleep in coffins. They are usually born with the power of sequence 7 of Moon Pathway, and can convert humans into their kind, by using excess characteristics,[1] and the sign of becoming a mature sanguine is fully grasping their power. When Sanguines worship the Moon they are referring to their ancestor Lilith (whose authority was the moon), not the Primordial Moon.

They distinguish themselves from what they call “artificial vampires” i.e. sequence 7 human Beyonder of Moon Pathway, who usually are believers of the Primordial Moon. They hate these people because their sequence 7 Beyonder characteristics often come from Sanguines.

Sanguines promote Sequence through rituals and drink potions like humans. They also need to use the Acting Method to digest the potion. But because of the limited number of Beyonder characteristics, it is extremely hard to promote within the clan. One needs to wait for many years until someone of the sequence level dies, but high-level sanguines can live for thousands of years. Most sanguines stayed at the level they were born with. Due to the same reason, it is also extremely hard for them to bear new babies because they need to have spare Beyonder characteristics ready.[2][3] A noble Sanguine is able to distinguish each person based on their different smell and blood characteristics. According to Emlyn, the most outstanding potion masters are all from the Sanguine, which is logical since the Sequence 6 of the Moon Pathway is Potions Professor.[4]

Sanguines have a unique set of names for each sequence in the Moon Pathway after sequence 7, based on noble titles: Baron (Sequence 6), Viscount (5), Earl (4), Marquis (3), Duke (2), Queen (1), and Sanguine Ancestor Lilith on top of all. There are 3 Dukes / Sequence 2 in the Sanguines clan right now who rule the clan.

According to Emlyn, the total number of important existences at the angel level, including ancient Sanguines that lived since the Second Epoch to this day and Grade 0 Sealed Artifacts, didn’t exceed five in number.[5]

Characteristics[]

Red eyes are a trademark characteristic of Sanguines. According to Emlyn, every red-eyed human had a Sanguine ancestor. Humans begin to develop this characteristic at Sequence 7.[6] There was a long time when humans and Sanguines copulated in the Fourth Epoch. They were all residents of the Trunsoest Empire; hence, with the widespread fellowship, many descendants were produced. There was an increasing number of red-eyed mixed-bloods as they passed down their genes, becoming an uncommon eye color for humans.[7]

Their heart beats relatively slowly, and it is one of the Sanguine’s fatal weaknesses.[8] Compared to humans, the Sanguine had a long lifespan. Even without a noble title, ordinary ones could live about three hundred years old. Under such circumstances, they could slowly accumulate and occupy every level, preventing any excess in Beyonder characteristics.[9]

According to Derrick Berg, in the Forsaken Land of the Gods, the so-called Vampire was quite a commonly seen monster in the depths of darkness. They are very ferocious. Their bodies run with pus and are very disgusting.[10] Like giants and elves, the Sanguines seem to be descendants of humans who mutated because of Beyonder characteristics. After many generations, they were able to purge the incompatible characteristics.[11]

History[]

The Sanguines was ruled by the Sanguine Ancestor Lilith in the Early Era of Fire in the Second Epoch before “She” perished together with the Mutated King Kvastir and the Demonic Wolf Flegrea. According to records from the City of Silver, they didn’t have clear ranks or sequence names until the appearance of the first Blasphemy Slate.

After the Catastrophe in the Third Epoch, the Sanguines left the central stage of the Northern and Southern Continent and became nobles of different empires or kingdoms as individuals instead of as a race. They either governed a territory or guarded a castle in key areas. This continued until the Blood Moon Queen Auernia became the wife of the Night Emperor Trunsoest. "She" gathered Sanguines as a clan again and they became an important supporter of this dynasty. After the War of the Four Emperors, Queen Auernia died, and the Sanguines suffered a terrible blow. The Trunsoest Empire was split by the four current royal families, and the Sanguines had no choice but to retreat to the uninhabited mountains to hide in the shadows so as to maintain the continuation of the race. Fortunately, the Seven Gods were fractured back then and the four countries attacked each other. After paying a certain price, the Sanguines finally escaped the disaster.[12]

In the Fifth Epoch, they hid in all walks of life and had completely integrated into human society.

As for those who were unable to control their own destructive urges and bloodlust, they were either sent to castles deep in the mountains or were dealt with in advance to prevent official Beyonder organizations from finding clues, including the Church of the Earth Mother that usually converts Sanguines to become their priests.

After the 1350 World War in the Fifth Epoch, the Sanguines merged with the Church of the Earth Mother, with Emlyn White as the representative of the Sanguines in Backlund.[13]
