“ | Death before rebirth. Ascension into godhood… |
„ |
— Amandina interpret his words on Circle of Inevitability, Chapter 692 |
The Underworld Daoist is the previous head of the Haoli sect and a powerful figure of the Western Continent who follows the Dao System. "He" holds authority over the Eternal Darkness group pathways and is connected to their Sefirah, the River of Eternal Darkness.
Appearance[]
Dream Festival's Ancient Black Tomb: A figure wearing a strange rusted iron crown and a dark robe with peculiar patterns. Its skin was milky-white, and its eyes were so dark they seemed to hold the entire night. A pale-white beard fluttered around its mouth and chin. His hands had pale, dark skin that was still smooth. The backs were cracked, each crack either covered in white feathers stained with pale yellow oil or dripping with decaying yellow pus.[1]
History[]
When the Armored Shadow was summoned by Lumian Lee to answer questions, it mentioned the Underworld Daoist:
“ | The Blood Son of Heaven disrupted the netherworld, and the Underworld Daoist sacrificed himself to enter the river. |
„ |
— Franca Roland's translation on Circle of Inevitability, Chapter 373 |
Here, the Blood Son of Heaven refers to the Blood Emperor Alista Tudor. After death, "His" remnant spirit somehow traversed a mysterious river to Franca's home world and wrought havoc there. The Underworld Daoist then sacrificed "Himself" to enter the river and sealed the Blood Emperor. "He" had been as good as dead since "His" sacrifice. "His" consciousness only partially merged into the River, allowing "Him" to act briefly but preventing "Him" from returning to the living world. This fate mirrored those of "His" predecessors and successors in the Haoli lineage. [2][3]
Later, during the Dream Festival, the Underworld Daoist was found sitting at the entrance of a black ancient tomb. "He" was the one who granted boons from the Darkness Pathway to Amandina and the Death Pathway to Robert.[1] He sealed the influence of the Blood Emperor’s remnant aura on Lumian's right hand.[4][5]
Madam Magician speculated that it was highly likely that Death had some interactions with the Underworld Daoist. For some reason, the Underworld Daoist agreed to Naboredisley's request for help, causing Naboredisley's corpse to slumber in a special dream.[6]
Before The Apocalypse, the Celestial Master, the Underworld Daoist, the Holy Monk, the Master of the Shadow Cottage, and the Celestial Thearch joined forces to aid Lumian Lee fighting against the Malevolent Dragon in the City of Calamity. Since beings of "His" level could not directly intervene, "They" used preexisting seals to restrict and weaken the Malevolent Dragon.[3]
