— Zaratul to Roselle on Lord of Mysteries, Chapter 462 |
Zaratul was first introduced in Roselle's Diary. "He" is the leader of the Secret Order.
"He" was previously a sequence 1 Beyonder of the Fool Pathway. However, "He" lost his Sequence 1 characteristic to Klein, "He" currently is in a process of resurrecting as of 1352 and succeeded by 1358. By Fall 1358, "He" is now an unstable stitched creature with the transmigrator Loki.
Appearance[]
He usually appear as an old man wearing a black robe with a hood. "His" eyes are as dark as the water without light. The white beard on "His" mouth is long and dense.
History[]
Lord of Mysteries[]
At some point during the reign of the first Solomon Empire, Medici noted that Zaratul was still digesting Sequence 4 potion.[2]
In Roselle's Diary, "He" claimed to be a sequence 2. He provided Roselle some knowledge on Beyonders and fourth epoch history, and in exchange had asked Roselle to steal Antigonus Family's Notebook from the Church of the God of Steam and Machinery.
Klein has inferred from the diary and other information that Zaratul probably went mad, this was later confirmed that "His" soul was ripped to 2 parts during his advancement from sequence 2 to sequence 1.

Klein met a half of "His" soul in the Foggy Town[3] and was tricked into helping this half escape the town and reconnect with his main body. Zaratul got rid of "His" madness once "He" fused the other half.
Later he went to Backlund to look for Klein. Klein suspected it was "Him" who warned the Rose School of Thought about the joint operation between Sharron and the Sanguine.[4]
"He" volunteered to help George Augustus III's advancement ritual to trap and hunt Gehrman Sparrow, and even brought Suah of the Rose School of Thought to cooperate with "Him".[5]
"He" also raided Klein's marionette town, Utopia, to stop Klein from advancing to sequence 1. However, "He" failed as Klein got captured by Adam first inside "His" Divine Kingdom, Corpse Cathedral. Later "He" suffered a counterattack from Klein, but "He" managed to escape using a pre-planned travel method.
Adam revealed that Zaratul would rather help Amon because if Amon became the Lord of Mysteries "He" can still retain being a King of Angels instead of being demoted or dying if Klein ascends to being The Fool.[6]
In "His" last fight against Klein, "He" was betrayed by his own historical projection of Knowledge Emperor Roselle and Klein directly killed "Him" using Law of Beyonder Characteristic Convergence then devoured "His" Beyonder Characteristic, preventing "His" resurrection within the Void of History.[7] However, Klein suspects Zaratul has an additional Miracle Invoker Beyonder characteristic and is in a process of resurrection. Antoine, a member of the Secret Order in Intis Republic, heard Zaratul's raving which related to an ancient castle called Dylan.[8]

Circle of Inevitability[]
As of 1358, Zaratul has come back from the dead and become the Celestial Worthy's attendant. The target vessel is the original body of the transmigrator Loki of the April Fool's. Through "His" vessel, "He" gains extra Beyonder characterstics of sequence 9 to 5 Fool Pathway blessed by the Celestial Worthy.
The Angel was resurrected inside Loki after the latter's resurrection during the Sea Prayer Ritual of Fall 1358. But "He" hasn't fully taken over Loki's body, and Loki hasn't died completely. This has turned them into an unstable, stitched-together monster in mind and soul.[9]
Possessing Loki, Zaratul fought against The Magician, The Hermit and Judgement, but had to escape in the end.[10]
Sealed Artifacts[]
- A Sealed Artifact with powers of a Sequence 4 Secrets Sorcerer of the Door Pathway.[11]
Trivia[]
- In the side story "In Modern Day," "He" is known as Mr. Zaratulstra. "He" is a VIP guest of the Intis Group and represents the MISTER Company. "His" modern name alludes to Zoroaster (Zarathustra) of the Avesta.[12]
